What types of businesses will be allowed within Progresso Heights?

For the most part, there may be any type of business on a commercial parcel as long as it is within Belize law, has obtained the necessary business and work permits, and does not harm the property and surrounding habitats. We cannot limit competition. Please note though that there are a limited number of commercial parcels in the development. Click on the Master Development Plan to view commercial parcels.




Will there be job opportunities within Progresso Heights?
There are commercial properties available for job opportunities. The commercial parcels are intended to provide many of the necessary support systems, as well as many commercial opportunities. Please visit the Master Development Plan page to see available commercial parcels. At this time we are not posting employment opportunities.



Can I run a bed and breakfast from my dwelling?
Yes, you may run a bed and breakfast from a residential parcel where food and beverages are available for sale and consumption by guests residing at the bed and breakfast. You must consider the size limitations for building on a residential parcel. Please refer to our website under the Building Guidelines.



Do I need a work permit?
You may need a work permit. Contact the appropriate Belize Government agency for more information.



May I rent or lease my parcel?
Yes, you may rent or lease your parcel or dwelling.



What is the difference between residential and commercial parcels?

Residential parcel owners may not conduct commercial business from their parcel. These parcels may be used as residences only. They may be rented or leased for all or part of the year. They may also be used as a bed and breakfast where food and beverages are available for sale and consumption by guests residing at the bed and breakfast. Also note, you may build up to 25% of the gross parcel square footage on residential parcels.

Commercial parcels may be used as residences as well as for commercial purposes. Some examples include: hotel/resort, bed & breakfast, eco-tour operator, market, bar, restaurant, rentals (kayak, canoe, sailboat, rowboat, etc.), tours, t-shirt & novelty shop, contractor, tool rental, etc... Also note, you may build up to 50% of the gross parcel square footage on commercial parcels.




Can I purchase a commercial parcel and conduct business at the location and live there as well?
Yes, you may conduct business and live on the same commercial parcel.
